About the Academy
The Mauritius Academy of Telefilm and Theatre exists from 1968. Composed of veteran and well-reputed actors, writers, producers, directors singers and writers, we have been producing mainly stage plays in on act as well as full length.
Our members have over the years won various prizes at Drama Festivals. Moreover, the Academy has been regularly giving public performances for selective audiences around Mauritius.
Lately in 1996, we bridged the gap of innovation by producing a TV serial namely "Nisha Path". Also our artists have been continuously performing in foreign films/ TV Serials.
To mark the 30th anniversary of the Independence and 6th Republic Day of Mauritius, the Academy presented "Seet Basant", a folkloric Musical Play thoughout the island in collaboration with the Ministry of Arts and Culture. The play was highly acclaimed during its tour in all major cities of India under the Indo-Mauritian Cultural Exchange Programme 1998. Similarly in 1999, we toured Mauritius with the play "Khela Polumpur".
Today the Academy is blessed with a team of talented and dynamic young artists who have been carefully trained through various Drama Seminars, Workshops and intensive working sessions.
Our future plans are to produce yet more high quality full-length plays among which folkloric plays shall be staged so as to keep alive and further promote our Maurian Cultures and traditions. We believe that through Folk Theatre, we will be able to give an identity to the Mauritian Theatre.
